There are two main areas of programme work.
Supporting the Implementation of PSA 16
Following NIMHE's National Social Inclusion Programme's successful coordination of the delivery of the Social Exclusion Unit's (SEU) report, Mental Health and Social Exclusion, NMHDU has been commissioned to provide national support to the implementation of Public Service Agreement (PSA) 16 on accommodation and employment. This seeks to improve these outcomes for the four most excluded groups in society, including people in contact with secondary mental health services, people with learning disabilities, offenders and young people who are leaving care. This will support the regional delivery plans being led by Deputy Regional Directors of Social Care in Government Offices to ensure that Local Authorities and health organisations work together to ensure the PSA drives change at local level. This programme is currently under development and more details will be available shortly

Shift
Shift is an initiative to tackle stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues in England. Our aim is to create a society where people who experience mental health problems enjoy the same rights and opportunities as other people. Shift works in the areas where people say they experience stigma and discrimination the most. Shift works in partnership across Government Departments, with public and voluntary sector organisations, public health and other and actively supports the anti discrimination programme Time to Change.
