Shaping personal health budgets: a view from the top
This report, published by NMHDU, NHS Confederation and ADASS examines the views of 40 senior leaders from local health and social care organisations on an important lever in the personalisation agenda- personal health budgets
.
Paths to Personalisation- This guide has been produced to help all those involved understand how
things will need to be done differently to make personalisation a
reality for people with mental health needs. This is a whole system
guide, so hopefully it will give some information, guidance and
signposts for people, whoever and wherever they are. The guide provides
information about what personalisation means for mental health services
and supports, offers examples of what needs to be in place to make
things work, and provides pointers to good practice and sources of
advice and information. Full details, downloads and videos available here

A personal health budget allows people to have more choice, flexibility and control over the health services and care they receive. A pilot programme involving around half the primary care trusts in England is currently underway, testing out personal health budgets in the NHS. Twenty of these pilot sites have been selected for an in-depth study as part of a wider evaluation exploring the potential of personal health budgets to benefit different groups of people.
The website www.personalhealthbudgets.org.uk is a resource open to anyone interested in contributing to the development of personal health budgets. It also has a dedicated area for professionals involved in the pilots. The website shares resources, news, learning and best practice.
Putting People First (PPF) is a national programme to improve
people's experience of adult social care. Launched in 2007, PPF is a
commitment to make sure anyone who needs care and support can exercise
choice and control to live their lives as they want.
PPF puts
people at the heart of the decision-making process. It enables them to
identify their needs and make choices about their support. It's all
about delivering high quality services tailored to individuals' wishes,
and ensuring better health and well being for everyone, including
families and carers.
PPF works to deliver:
- Universal services: ensuring that anyone requires care and support can find the services they need in their community
- Preventive services: helping people to maintain their health and well being for longer
- Choice and control: giving people as much control as they want over decisions which affect their care
- Increased social capital: helping individuals, families, cares and communities shape services for local people
