The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), National Mental Health Development Unit (NMHDU) and National CAMHS Support Service (NCSS) are working together on a project sponsored by the Department of Health to produce guidance and tools to improve transitions for young people with psychological, emotional and behavioural problems to make the transition from CAMHS to adult services - including but not exclusively to Adult Mental Health Services. CAMHS is interpreted broadly to include services which are not specifically mental health services but which give mental health support to children and young people.
SCIE have commissioned OPM (the Office for Public Management) to undertake part of this work. OPM is an independent, not for profit organisation with wide experience of supporting the commissioning and delivery of children and adult services, www.opm.co.uk
To support the development of guidance and tools, we want collect good practice examples of work with all young people aged 14-25 with psychological, emotional or behavioural problems who have need for a transition to adult mental health services or alternative support in young adulthood to meet their mental health needs. We are looking for a wide range of practice. For example, it could be the commissioning of a new service, a project to support managers and practitioners, the way a service has been designed, a new way of working by a practitioner, or how better integrated working and communication has been achieved in your local area. Once examples have been submitted, we will select a number to develop into case studies through follow up interviews. Examples not developed into case studies may still be used by SCIE to develop a longer list of interesting practice.
Please click on: http://www.scie.org.uk/children/transitions.asp to download the template to submit an example. Alternatively email Shama Sarwar on ssarwar@opm.co.uk for a template or telephone her on 0207 239 7843
The deadline for the good practice template is: Friday 29 October 2010
Thank you for supporting work to improve transitions for young people.
